Get strong first and then hit the track, this is not one off. It needs to be done in a periodised fashion, strongly backed with scientific protocols that govern the strength training and running the program you’re following.
Lack of muscle mass and strength will bring a joint pain initially and will lead to degeneration at the end. You should be doing weight training as a long-term investment for your musculoskeletal health.
I urge all runners (am referring to all runners and cardio freaks) to understand that running or cardio work can only take care of one aspect of fitness. I see many runners in my clinic who go down the drain like this.
