Here WE go; I have Known Basu sir ever since he took over as the trainer for the Tamil Nadu Ranji team. Our first meeting was not really cordial to say the least. The thing that struck me about him immediately was that he was a very confident bloke and knew exactly what he was doing. The results were there for everyone to see. Our team’s performance improved and we made it to two consecutive Ranji finals and I feel that his training methods had a big role to play in that. Personally today he is more than a trainer to me, a friend, philosopher and guide who has always been there for me at all times. A person with whom I can share and discuss anything under the sun. If I am still playing cricket at competitive level, free from injuries, it’s all because of him. My workouts have all been postal and I have been in touch and followed his training methods wherever I have been in the world.

Frankly speeking not knowing imporrtance of fitness isn’t a crime but not getting to know surely is…
Frankly speaking no knowing importance to fitness isn’t a crime but not getting to know surely is. When I began play at the age of 15 cricket was nothing but passion for me as I went along I realized that fitness is going to be a core issue but dint’s know how to address the core issue.
I had lot of mas but had less muscle so very necessary for sports. Back and shoulder would keep troubling me and visits to physio increased. In any sport when this happens, a player get distracted and eventually his performance suffers. Not being fully fit was a big worry for me.
I was urged to meet Basu sir with whom I spent 5 days. He tested my body and suggested a fitness regime. Got it done in his gym. He advised his dietician to give me diet programme that would complement my fitness regime.
I must say my fitness improve tremendously. When that improved, my skill level in batting and fielding went up. In fact I have no hesitation in saying that Basu Sir’s programme was so good that even after scoring unbeaten double hundred o Ranji debut against star studded Tamilnadu team, I was absolutely fresh. Balanced diet also helped me a lot.
When fitness level improved all the factors connected with the body sorted out. Fielding became top class. I could concentrate properly. Thanks Basu sir for your invaluable guidance.

I have not met a better teacher than Mr Basu. If trainers have to get respected in the society, they need tremendous knowledge and professionalism, and BAR gives you just that. I think BAR’s teaching approach is the edge that trainers have to look for, to make a successful career.
Enrolling in BAR was the best thing that ever happened to my career. Getting coached and guided by the best in the country, Mr.Basu and Ms.Radha, is a dream come true and a start in the right direction for my career in Fitness. It cannot get better than BAR. It is a start of a FITNESS REVOLUTION. BAR is committed to make fitness as an Industry by itself as in other countries like U.K, U.S and Australia. And teaming up with the flag bearers of the fight against non-certified trainers, spoiling the industry, is a dream of every professional. What with more and more aspiring fitness enthusiasts joining BAR, the day is not far away when BAR, the day is not far away when BAR will launch Specialist International Certifications like ACE, ACSM, NASM and CHEK INSTITUTE, under the guidance of Mr.Basu & Ms.Radha.

I started training with Basu sir first when I was 19. But it was not until early this year when I began to train with Sir on a consistent and serious basis. Definitely one of the best decisions of my life. The best thing about working with sir is what you see is what you get. He is sincere to what he does, honest and very professional. Sir is extremely scientific in his training and amazingly confident at his work, which is backed by solid years of hard work and his passion to be the best at what he does. Training with sir has helped me tremendously in the short span I have been working with him, physically and mentally in my sport and only look forward to training harder each day. He is a friend, guide and one of the few people I listen to and respect tremendously and take advice from. Thank you for believing in me. He is the best in the business. Wish you all the success in the world.

I have trained under “Basu sir” as a professional athlete for more than ten years and I can very proudly dedicate my whole tennis career to him as all the credit of making me a physically fit and strong player goes to him. I have also seen him grow as a human being and gain immense knowledge about fitness by constantly learning and clearing almost all the fitness courses in the world today and attending all major fitness workshops in the world”. He is probably one of the best fitness trainers in the world.

I first came to Basu sir in a huff, arguing with my elder brother who insisted that I needed to begin working out. Basu sir has transformed me. I started of gyming at 16 years weighting 71.6 kilos. I am now 17 and weight 54 kilos. Sir has been my guide mentor and a father figure. 90% of my success is due to Basu sirs influence and excellent guidance. So to all of you, if you are looking for results, there is only one possible way and that’s Basu’s way! I love you sir!

I am a National level table tennis player who has represented German league for club Eintracht frankufurt at intl arena. One of my friends at the academy had severe shoulder injury and I noticed him recover pretty quickly.
He revealed that Primal Patterns Fitness Studio’s physiotherapist fixed his shoulder pain. So when I was down with shoulder pain; I reached out to Primal patterns. The rehab program with Mr.Babu had a scientific approach and close monitoring, day by day I got better and the pain vanished.
I was keen to start the fitness training and knock off 5kgs in 3months, aiming to lose excess body fat and gain strength. I signed up with Mr Babu and combined a healthy nutritional program advised by Ms Shiny, the sports nutritionist. I was educated about eating on time and choosing the right quality of foods. My sister in law and mother offered all the support in preparing nutritious meal at home.
My life has transformed at Primal Patterns. I eat healthy, sleep on time; my workouts are scientific and customized for my sport. My energy level has improved drastically and I feel lighter as I lost excess fat.
What do you do when you weight 93.8kgs and have a body fat percentage of 37.8? More importantly you also happen to be an athlete. In my case, I did not realize that I was actually “obese and unfit” to play any sport.
It’s no rocket science to figure out why I weighed that much. I solely blame my forever “food carving stomach”. My life revolved around my sport and no prizes for guessing, food to make things worse, my body was not accustomed to a particular routine for sleeping. I would sleep as early as 9 pm or as late as 2 am.
Don’t be alarmed, it’s not like I did not train but my erratic sleep patterns and my “diet” if I can call it that, overshadowed my long hrs at the gym. Also I was grossly negligent about the need for training during my cricket season.
Mr.Basu or Bassar(read as basu sir) as I fondly call him with whom I have been training for the last7 year is more than just my trainer. I consider him to be my godfather. I have never had second thoughts on anything that Bassar has ever told me. 14 months back during one of our many conversations that he decided to take charge and turn things around for me in my cricket and what transpired that year was history. Standing testimony to that was my raji trophy debut 6 months later. He convinced me to make a few changes to my approach towards life, sports and professional decisions and it made an impact of enormous magnitude.
“Morbid obesity” would be the first words that he would utter. One DEXA scan later, there was enough evidence about the obesity from which I could not run and hide anymore. It was then that I realized that I had to work on my fitness and Bassar had realized that even before me.
Firstly I had to inculcate the 3D’s (Discipline, determination and dedication) in life to face what Bassar had in store for me for the next 6 months starting 20th march 2012. He put me onto Mr.Rajesh as my trainer who has been an integral part in my journey so far.
As excited as I was to start the new routine it seemed like I was running on obstacle race with my challenges being cutting down on anything I thought o food and following a strict personalized diet(with its meaning in entirety), a strenuous training schedule and being the early to bed and early to rise person. He made me understand that losing weight does not entirely dependent upon a proper diet but it is a co terminus with training and most importantly sleep.
4 months and 8 days later here I am weighing 77.8kgs and feeling at the top of my fitness and health levels
All thanks to Bassar and his amazing team at primal patterns. Happy to be associated with them.
The Lost Year Of My life has Seen tremendous progress in all field of my pursuit to become a professional cricketer…
The last year of my life has seen tremendous progress in all fields of my pursuit to become a professional cricketer. I feel one of the biggest factors in my progress and general wellbeing has been my training with Basu Sir. I came to him about two yrs ago with quite a serious back injury which had kept me out of competitive cricket for over 15 months. 6 weeks of intense training with him and I was sorted and have not had even the slightest niggle ever since.
Besides the fact that I overcame my injury, Basu Sirs whole outlook on training and keeping fit as a way of life rather than something you happen to do as a part of your day have truly inspired me. He and his entire team are truly amazing and have great work ethics.
Keep at it guys!!
Mr.Basu i must say comes with very high recommendations from almost anyone in the field of sport…
Mr.Basu, I must say comes with very high recommendation from almost anyone in the field of sport, and this is how I first heard of the ‘first’, ‘genuine’, ‘how you really need to get it done‘ Fitness instructor.
Before joining ‘Primal Patterns’ I had never worked out at a gym let alone on a one on one basis with a personal trainer. Don’t get me wrong, I used exercise though. In my first conversation with mr.Basu, the very daunting ‘DEXA SCAN’ came into play. Why do I need this, what in the world could it tell a reasonable ‘Trim’ person such as myself??.. I was in for a rude awaking! 41% body fat was what it said, “Oh no I was put on a faulty machine”, “The universe is conspiring against me” were my first thoughts, but no such luck, the figure was correct.
Once I managed to somehow get past the initial shock, I made my way to my first appointment, my goals were simple enough, to get super fit ASAP, Serena Williams’ leg’s please…
My concere when I first met mr.Basu was not the hard work or effort that needed to be put into an exercise program, but that I would have to up my intake of food and keep a check o the intervals between each meal. As I was a chubby child, food was a slight issue, how much to eat? Could I substitute this chicken breast for a chocolate, am I really hungry, Do I deserve to eat this, after I have eaten that? Once I was explained how and why I needed to eat the right food at the right time, the difficulty of incorporating it as a lifestyle change was put to work.
Enter Arun K.R, my fitness instructor, and some who knows exactly how you need to and how much you need to do, to achieve what you need. Patience seems to come naturally to him and accompanied with a killer eye for Form and the eerie ability to spot that you are compensating on a certain side or rep., before you mind knows you are doing it, makes him personal trainer par excellence. With Arun’s dedication and our training the next Dexa scan 6 months later showed results that could make you smile, 31.5% body fat, down from 41% was not easy, but making yourself aware of what you were putting into your body and hard work accompanied by an excellent personal trainer seemed to have done the job.
The feeling of being strong and fit is something that you can fall in love with. It’s addictive, but is an ongoing challenge. There is no room for complacency when to come to fitness, cause you can very easily get up one morning and be exactly where you started off or worse. With food and drink, I believe, ‘Deprivation’ never worked for anyone, ‘Moderation’ is key. This is what I have learnt. Primal Patterns I have found is one of those places where every instructor seems to care about their client’s need and are ‘Trained Professionals’ who know what they are telling you to do. Its great to be a part of this organization. Happy Exercising, Mrinal Vasu.

I am a Mumbaikar. We are known to be on out toes all the time. Add to this if you are a cricketer and that too a fast bowler playing matches every other day on treacherous maidaans, you will be in the physio’s clinic on a regular basics if you haven’t trained scientifically. I say this from personal experience because Basu made hell of a difference to my career in chalking out my training programme.
I’ve known Basu since 2004 when I first worked with him at the NCA in Bangalore. He was the trainer of our under 22 batch. He was the first person to actually introduce me to strength training and over the years all the various aspects surrounding strength and functional training. Up until 2004 going to the gym meant doing bench press and hamstring curls and leg extensions. However even after 2004 my training continued to be very basic and I went through some major injury periods with a side strain and some chronic ankle problems.
Fed up of all my injury problems in 2009 I decided to go back to Basu. I went to Chennai and got myself examined and dis various fitness tests in his clinic. Our goal was to be injury free by looking after my body and the desired results are there today and it’s been a fantastic 3 years.
My strength levels have gone up and that’s reflected in my performances on the field. What sets him apart from most other trainers is his ability to motivate and communicate with the athlete apart from his knowledge. Even the smallest exercise in the programme are done for a reason and he makes sure I know what that reason is.
Thanks Basu for helping me out.

I first met Basu during IPL 2010 in Bangalore. My father, coach of RCB, had told me about RCB’s really good fitness trainer and that he would help me with a training program which would improve my strength and fitness with specific focus for my chosen sport, cricket. From our first introduction, Basu and I were a perfect match. He was a master eager to teach, and I was a student, eager to learn, added to which we both shared a commitment to fitness, a high work ethic and a “no-nonsense” approach.
At the time, I was following a fairly general strength and fitness program and was doing regular boxing classes, weight training and running, in addition to practicing and playing cricket. I felt that I was in a very good physical condition and was definitely above average in fitness compared to my peers. I also thought that I had a good knowledge of exercise and fitness.
Basu met me in the gym at Royal Gardenia Hotel in Bangalore and spent the next few hours starting to transform not only my body, but also my ideas about what I needed to do to develop strength, stamina and explosive power to improve my cricket. I had been doing pyramid style weight training(sets of increasing weight decreasing reps) with mostly isolated type exercises focusing on specific muscles, and my cardio consisted of running about 5km’s on the road. Basu changed my weight training to complex multi-function exercises using muscles in the body for one exercise, he introduced me to the ball and foam roller, and changed my cardio to sprints. To be honest, at first I was doubtful about his methods, but after just 3 months of his program, my strength, condition and knowledge had improved so much that I was requested to work with a school cricket first team to improve their fitness, and I was approached by Cricket South Africa to work with some of their top younger players.
Basu has been instrumental in my development and growth as a cricketer and he is my fitness guru. I have been 100% injury free since I met Basu. I follow his program and advice to the letter and feel that I owe him my ability to concentrate and bat for long periods, as well as my fitness, strength and stamina to open the bowling and the batting and being able to follow my dream, without injury for such a long period of time, to be a world-class, international all-rounder.

Hi. My name is Anand from Chennai.
I would like to thank Mr. Basu and his team members for their efficient help, support and wonderful care, they all have demonstrated to those of us who attend training and treatment sessions for our wellbeing.
On April 2010, I underwent a spinal surgery for disc prolapse on L4 and L5 level and doctors had strictly advised me not to do weight training anymore. My spinal injury has not only caused me pain and discomfort, but it has also turned my life a bit upside down in terms of work and not being nearly as active as I’d like to be. I was on complete bed rest for 4 months and was undergoing various treatments like physiotherapy, acupuncture, homeopathic medicines etc. but not much improvement on my health and my body weight was increased to 93kg from 84kg.
When I contacted Jay and explained about my health condition, without any delay he arranged for an appointment with Mr. Navneeth and I was properly cared for during my therapy sessions. I say this from personal experience because Jayavarma and Navneeth made hell of a difference to my career in chalking out my training programme. I have never had such phenomenal service in my entire life, and I want to thank you for having someone so courteous, perceptive and knowledgeable about what it takes to make customers happy. Thank you again.
I would like to thank Mr. Navneeth for his outstanding professionalism, care, concern, and courtesy during my therapy treatments at Primal Patterns. Being highly knowledgeable in his field of therapy, all of the exercises he chose for me (whether at your center or with the assigned home program) were designed to help heal my spinal injury. They have worked for me tremendously.
Mr. Navneeth has always taken the time and patience to provide me with excellent care on an individual basis, with a focus on my overall recovery.
After all of the surgeries and rehab over many years, I consider Mr. Navneeth as one of the best physical therapists I have ever dealt with. All the trainers in your center are well trained and have the ability to help people in achieving their health goals. During the past one year, I have watched Mr. Navneeth treating on many people with various health problems, with the same excellent results every time. He is able to relate the person’s pain or strain into something that they fully understand.
Before I go into Jay’s specific qualities as a trainer, it may be worth mentioning why I decided to begin working with him. I had done weight training before and I was unsuccessful at maintaining any Sort of regular exercise program in the (too many) years following organized training.
I have been working with Mr. Jayavarma and Ms. Shiny (Dietician) for past 4 months. I always wanted a sculpted body and hence I was asked to follow a strict diet to cut down my fat percentage and to increase my muscle mass. Now I have reduced my body fat % from 25.3 to 21.8 over a period of 3 months. Thanks to Jay and Shiny to get me back in shape in a short period of time.
Encouraging, creative, and professional are the words that immediately come to mind to describe Jay as a trainer. His encouragement took on various forms, such as his always enthusiastic greetings, the genuine interest he showed in me as a person, and most importantly, the way in which he would guide me through his well-designed workouts. Jay seemed to intuitively know how to push me beyond what I thought I could do without going overboard or getting in my face. He showed creativity in the workouts
By including both traditional types of exercises (bench press, lunges, curls, etc.) along with newer exercises that engaged various muscle groups. The exercises themselves were often varied, and the workouts never seemed routine or boring.
Nevertheless, each one of you gives a friendly sense of comfort and empathy, which has made recovery immeasurably better. The atmosphere in the PT space makes me feel relaxed and able to rehabilitate physically, and mentally as well.
Shiny is my Savior. I am not exaggerating over here. Sometime last year, my weighting machine pointed south of 80 kg Now, I am not the person who is known to be overweight. I would like to see myself as a body conscious person and being almost 18kg overweight was not something that I could ignore. Most of this had accumulated over 4-5 months of stress eating and as much as I tried, I couldn’t get it down. I also had a leg issue that prevented me from intense exercising. Somehow I knew that the only person that could help me was Shiny. And couldn’t have been more right.
Over, 7 months+, with just the right diet balance, and lifestyle changes, I am back to my ideal 60kg and I have been off the strict diet for about 4 weeks now and I have not put on any weight.
Shiny customizes the diet for each person. That way, you don’t feel like you are giving up too many things. As for me, I did not crave for anything that was not allowed oh! And she has some amazing recipes hidden down her sleeve. Her diet is not about calories as much as balance. I have had butter almost on a daily basis, sapottas, cheeses, panneer, and various things that would generally be banned under a typical diet and trust me, they haven’t done any harm!
Shiny was more like a friend than a dietitian and I really have no idea what I would have done without her! There were days when I have called her at 4 AM I the morning asking for advice on what to eat while on an unplanned business trip and she would calmly tell me what to do. On one of the more stressed days, when I whined and cried, she actually asked me to keep calm and have a Chocolate Cake. Now which dietitian does that?
I cannot thank Shiny with words for what she has done. She is seriously my savior. She will always be

Naveeth I suffer from excruciating headaches that normally his me in the early hours of the morning and are accompanied by serve pain in the neck and around the right shoulder blade and with serve nausea. I usually have to take shots to prevent the nausea. Having had a history of migraine in the family, I just presumed that my headaches were migraines and went in for migraine medication but that medication never seemed to help.
Someone then suggested that they are caused by musculo-skeletal problems after which my husband, who has been a regular with Navneeth suggested that I meet up with him.
He listened to my symptoms and told me that the headaches were “cervicogenic” in nature and not a migraine. On checking on the internet I realized it was true.
He put me on a course of “upper body strengthening” exercises after which I find that the relentless shoulder pain, which has been my companion for almost four years, has almost totally disappeared and so has my neck pain. I also feel that due to this my headaches have also decreased in frequency.
I will however have to put it to test on long trips when I am most likely to get the headaches but I think persisting with these exercises will benefit then also.
Dear Mr.Basu, T thank you for the attention given during my two month program at Primal Patterns….
I thank you for the attention given during my two month program at Primal Patterns.
I have been carrying my back pain for about ten years. I must say I am feeling normal post my stint at Primal Patterns.
The problem (back) was well analysed and an effective exercise schedule chalked out. Utmost attention was paid during each routine and his helped me get the maximum results. I was assured by Mr.Basu that in two months the back will be corrected and he and his team have lived up to the promise.
I once again thank you and Mr.Basu for the correct work schedule during the tenure and an appropriate follow up set of exercises.
I joined this training programme nearly two years ago. I had initially come to shiny for diet consultation. The perennial problem with weight gain; I also had a painful swollen knee-a problem I developed may be due to improper training and exercise at another gym. I met Mr Basu who immediately offered to help me. He assigned me to Babu, who was ready to help me with my problem. At first it seemed that my knee pain got worse (may be due to my doubts and scepticism).
I am glad that I prevailed and did not stop the training. I am grateful to Babu for his patience and dedication. He is sincere and committed to his job, always well prepared for each session and never keeps me waiting. I now enjoy my exercise sessions and want to do more.
Thanks to the excellent training programme given. I have become fit and I have lost weight gradually. ‘My body has toned’ – a compliment I received. Now if I miss a session my body and muscles stat to hurt – exercise is in my blood. Thank you Babu.

Shoulder, Spinal Cord, Hip, Knee, Ankle… Hey…wait… wait… wait… I am not listing out the joints in our body. These are the joints on my left side of the body had pain before joining Primal Patterns i.e. before May 2012. Just to brief you how bad I was, we have to roll back the time to May/ June 2012.
(1) My elder brother returned from USA during May 2012for short vacation after ~ 3 years, he asked me to take him to milk booth which is situated about ½ km from our house by walk. In reply, I said “Nothing doing. I can take you to booth by bike not by walk”.
(2) During the same period, not even single hour (not day) passes by without “altered sensation”. (This word, I learned much later from Mr. Suresh).
As you know, if someone is writing testimonial means he has achieved or in the process of achieving what he / she wanted to. Now, you are reading this testimonial which means I have already written testimonial which implicitly means that I am happy with the progress I have made in association with primal patterns.
In all movies, protagonist struggles initially as I suffered from back pain and its accomplices. In the end, protagonist emerges successfully as I am today!(Obviously with the guidance of Mr. Suresh, Mr. Navneeth and Primal Patterns & Co.). We all still go to theatre by knowing this but still we watch movie to know how the protagonist emerges against odds. To know that please read further.
Here the introduction of the protagonist (Who else, its’ me!!)
I am a researcher by profession. If I exaggeratedly describe my profession, it is “be all brain no brawn”. As the old adage says “sound mind can thrive only in sound body”. My enemies, back pain and its accomplices barged in to my fortress and made my body weaker. When we become weaker, we try to find fault with circumstances and try to pass the bucks. In accordance with this social law, I started yelling at my co-workers (not bosses) and was restless at home. To put it in nutshell, my professional and social life was in utter chaos. At this juncture, protagonist decided to build stronger body i.e. to become brawny from brainy. I had two choices either to meet “brawns” or brains who knew about brawn. Without knowing much about personal training and primal patterns, I took decision to train under Primal Patterns. Retrospectively it is easy to say that then I met brains who knew about brawn.
As is the custom with Primal Pattern, I underwent the screening through the scanner called Mr. Navneeth’s eyes. As usual, nonchalantly or so it appeared, he analyzed my body strength. (Probably I made his job easier because most of my joints were weak then). Now, Basu sir enters into the scene. Basu sir assigned the unenviable job of over-hauling our 6-ft 2-in monster protagonist to Mr. Suresh. To start with Mr. Suresh’s hands were tied. He has to perform Houdini act because I cannot do presses because of shoulder injury, I cannot do deadlifts because of back pain, I cannot do lunges because of knee pain and I cannot run because of pain in ankle (jargons in fitness testimonial and sentiments in Tamil cinemas are inseparable!).First 6-7 months, Mr. Suresh educated me about what to do and more importantly what not to do. After that Mr. Suresh slowly introduced strengthening exercise in to my sessions. I gained strength which allowed me to do more exercise which improved my strength little more. I was caught in this virtuous cycle. In short, the whole process was (and still it is) pre-planned cold-blooded murder of my back pain and its accomplices (Fight sequences. So we are nearing the end scene!).Now I am at peace with my body.
Based on my interactions with Mr. Suresh, I understood that my body is THE TEMPLE. I worship my body now more than ever. I thank my partner-in-crime Mr. Suresh for mentoring through the whole process. My interaction with Basu sir is limited but I reserve special thanks to him for making this transformation as a reality by ensemble these brains who knew about brawn.
